Jai Vilas Palace was home to the Scindia family - whose history began humbly from the village of Kannerkheda at Satara district, Maharastra.
The Jai Vilas Palace has been a family home of Scindias for generations and continues to do so even today. In 1964 the West wing of the Palace was converted into a museum by the Rajmata Shrimant Vijaya Raje Scindia in the memory of her Late husband H.H. Maharaja Sir George Jiwaji Rao Scindia. The Museum was opened to public by the then President of India H.E. Dr. Radhakrishnan on 12th December 1964.
